A lot of famous people origin from Dublin. Just think of:

  • Bono – lead singer with U2 and campaigner on world debt
  • Chris De Burgh – Musician
  • The Dubliners – folk and ballad group (Luke Kelly, Ronnie Drew, Barnie McKenna, John Sheahan)
  • Colin Farrell – actor
  • Bob Geldof – The Boomtown Rats lead singer and Live Aid organiser
  • Ronan Keating – singer
  • Sinéad O’Connor – singer
  • Maureen O’Hara – actress

each more talented than the other. Here’s a complete list, perhaps you will recognize more. I have heard of these people, know their music, their books, but I do not know them.  What I do know though, is that Dubliners are friendly, merry and very helpful.

My partner and I were studying our city map, trying to decide which road to take to get to our hotel. A guy who was passing us immediately stepped up and asked if he could help. Then a car stopped at the side of the road, an older gentleman got out, walked over and asked the same question. When he saw we knew where to go, he handed me his own map of Dublin, saying that it was much better than the one we were using, and simply walked away again… but not before catching a kiss I blew him. He grinned and drove off. How cool is that?

Hotel, restaurants, pubs, even shops, everyone was so very kind that that alone made me fall in love with this city. I saw so many interesting persons, but didn’t want to intrude on their privacy by taking a photo. I did manage to catch some of them though, so here is my tribute to the People of Dublin:
