Childhood dream castle still stands tall

Whenever I’m in my hometown, the beautiful castle of Hoensbroek keeps calling out until I stretch my legs and take a walk… and a photo, time and again. It is what we see when we open the curtains of my parents’ house.

There are lots of birds in the water and on the green pastures around the castle: majestic white swans, gray herons, ducks and moorhens. We even had a nesting pair of storks, which resulted in three adorable chicks last year!

In my quest for pink, I stumbled upon the Castle d’Oultremont. It was painted pink because of the role it played in the theme park Land van Ooit. 😀

At least you get a warning… 😉

I like arriving somewhere and taking a left when someone tells you to go right. When all the tourist signs are pointing one way, it’s exciting to go the other.

Photo Challenge: Danger!

In July of last year, V-man and I visitited the beautiful Château de Carrouges in France. We love dwelling in and around old buildings, whether they are still intact or (preferably) in ruins. This one is in perfect condition!

The holiday mood was bright, and the sun was trying hard to peek around the clouds. When we stepped through the gate, my eyes beheld this warning:

All of a sudden, the terrorist threat became more real. A feeling of danger choked my throat.  The image is in stark contrast with the next scene of a family, having a picknick in the garden of the same castle.

Stay warm, stay safe.

To imagine that these balls -though a smaller version- were used in a canon like the one below.

Soldiers, still keeping watch at the Moorish castle of Torres Vedras. They sure had balls. 😉
