Early this morning, I went for a little walk. The sun on my face, an audiobook in my ears. Ahead, pavers were already at work, and I passed at a safe distance. My way led into the outskirts of our little village, just around the corner. And there was no one that early, except for a couple of horses.
On my way back I saw this sidewalk chalk drawing. And in my mind, I saw a little girl, a piece of chalk in her hand, the tip of her tongue between her teeth. She created a beautiful colorful flower, sky blue and sunny yellow. The image moved me and filled me with hope.

I can’t translate the exact words, for there is a pun in the Dutch words. But it means something like: whatever is happening in a country, let the children play. And in these corona times, they seem to be the only ones who can do so safely.

Suddenly you’re eye to eye with a rugged Scot. A mountain of muscles and dangerous horns. Fortunately, everything was wrapped in a mahogany-colored cuddly coat. 😉
I can watch these peaceful highlanders for hours on end and have been in love with them since the first highlander calves were introduced in Safaripark Beekse Bergen. At that time I was doing research in the park and often accompanied the park supervisor on his daily rounds.
Aside from the Scottish highlander, I took this photo last January because of its wintery colors, the purple and green tones. The two people in the background add depth to the photo.

We may not have Sequoias in the Netherlands, but these guys are something else as well, right? These silent giants are a powerful sight. They don’t care too much about humanity crawling around their toes down there. Their attention is focused on higher powers, their goal to reach sun and moon. They grow imperturbably throughout the years, even centuries.
Whenever I walk in a forest, I feel surrounded by eternity, a slowness that helps to take away stress. Trees give me peace of mind. No, I’m not hugging them –except maybe once in England– but I can’t resist putting my hand on their gnarled skin.
This photo reminds me of the interior of La Sagrada Familia. But this house of the Gods is natural. It lives, breaths. It is the real deal. Simple and pure, where no gold or splendor is needed. ❤

The Netherlands is a country with lots of water. V-man and I love to walk or ride our bikes down the path along the river The Mark near the city of Breda. Our country is densely populated, and I get excited each time I see animals ‘in the wild’. One day we came upon these Canada geese, strutting around a lonely white swan. What is not to like about these magnificent birds — apart from their droppings. Like cows, they graze. I don’t know exactly what they find in the grass, but they seem to like it.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to simply take off? To fly away from all your worries and troubles? To soar through the skies and find a nice and quiet spot to wait until all difficulties had gone away. Let’s join these feathered friends and find out.

This photo was taken back in 2016, on a bright March day, just like today. The steel-blue water rippled peacefully under a clear blue sky and the farm was safely hidden among the trees, their branches already budding. See how the reed lazily waves in the spring breeze? Can you feel the sunlight on your cheeks? And what would it be like to dip your hand in the cold water…

This fen is situated in a forest near a residential area. In the background, you can even see the houses on the left side. Still, this place seems mysterious to me. The tranquility, the mossy colors… it evokes a stillness in me, a sense of timelessness. And in this old, slow part of the forest, there’s one fresh green bush. To me, it means that, despite all stateliness, nature does not come to a standstill. She renews each spring! ❤
