The okapi, also known as the forest giraffe, Congolese giraffe or zebra giraffe, is a mammal native to the northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Central Africa. The beauties on these photos live in Safari Park Beekse Bergen in the Netherlands.
Although the okapi bears striped markings reminiscent of zebras, it is most closely related to the giraffe. The okapi and the giraffe are the only living members of the family Giraffidae.

This week it is Smokey’s turn to stand, or rather lie in the spotlight. He looks up with confidence and trust. Four years in our family have done him a lot of good. And he entertains us on daily basis with his crazy shenanigans and funny sounds. Such an awesome companion!
