The meerkat is an adorable creature. Who can resist its beautiful dark eyes, its cute face, the wiggly nose and fuzzy paws. The name doesn’t make sense though, at least not in Dutch. The little critter does not live in a lake (meer) at all, nor is it a cat (kat). Stokstaartje, is the Dutch word for meerkat. In English that would be little stick-tail.
