Six Word Story Challenge – Writing

Last time the 6WSC-theme was Spring. This word loosened up a lot in us: enough to write eleven stories about!

6WSCBut two weeks have passed since and now it is time for a new challenge. The new writing prompt is… Writing! We are all writers here. And I want to know what writing does to you, what happens inside of your head. Why do you write? How do you write? What happens? Tell us a story about writing in just six words. About the process or the end product.

Writing is the representation of language in a textual medium through the use of a set of signs or symbols (known as a writing system). It is distinguished from illustration, such as cave drawing and painting, and non-symbolic preservation of language via non-textual media, such as magnetic tape audio.

Writing most likely began as a consequence of political expansion in ancient cultures, which needed reliable means for transmitting information, maintaining financial accounts, keeping historical records, and similar activities. Around the 4th millennium BC, the complexity of trade and administration in Mesopotamia outgrew human memory, and writing became a more dependable method of recording and presenting transactions in a permanent form. In both Ancient Egypt and Mesoamerica writing may have evolved through calendrics and a political necessity for recording historical and environmental events. The oldest known use of writing in China was in divination in the royal court.

So WRITING. Let a photo or image inspire you to write a story. Or first write the story, and then make or search for a picture to go with it.

Here’s a Six Word Story by Ernest Hemingway.

SixWordStory

Such an impact and unseen images in only six words…

Every two weeks on Wednesday I will post a new theme for this Six Word Story Challenge. Publish your Six Word Story on your own website/blog and paste the link to that post in a comment to this one here at Figments. I will include your contribution in this post, forming a list of stories.

Will you join me? Will you? Say you do 😀 And share the challenge news!

Have fun writing,
Marion

    1. A beautiful story about writing, Gil. I love the last part especially, because that’s exactly what happens. For a short time, it is you and your thoughts. Thanks so much for participating once again, I always look forward to your contribution.
Will you say hi to Lee for me? 🙂
      Hugs,

    1. Hi Majar, a warm welcome to the challenge! 🙂
And you are so right, writing can take and talk you to another world whenever we want or need to. Thank you for your story in six words.

  1. I can hardly read a book in English, but in Swedish, French, Italian and Spanish it’s no problem… A lot of terms that I don’t know in English, especially that American English isn’t the English I speak, too much differences when Americans talk… When I say football an American say soccer, when I say American football an American say football, which is a kind of rugby and not football, and I don’t understand rugby/American football… And my English is just basic, I just know the Brittish grammar… And “socker” is sugar in Swedish… So I don’t play with the sugar… 😉 Just an exemple…

I write books in French and Swedish…

    1. These are a lot more than six words, Maria 😉
I’m sorry, I organize this challenge in English and Dutch, not in the other languages you mentioned. But I’m sure you can write a story in six simple English words? If you ever feel like trying, you’re welcome to participate. Looking forward to that moment.
And good luck on the book writing!

    1. Hi Cyril, nice to meet you.
It is quite simple: write a story in six words, find or make a picture/photo to go with your story, publish it on your own blog and link back to me. Then you copy the url to your blogpost in my challenge-post, so others may find you too. And through your post, others find me and are able to join my challenge.
The same is explained in my post above.
      Good luck! Surprise me! 😉
