A city is what Jake Sprinter wants us to show this Sunday.
A city is a relatively large and permanent settlement. Although there is no agreement on how a city is distinguished from a town within general English language meanings, many cities have a particular administrative, legal, or historical status based on local law.
First I’ll show you why I don’t like cities:
See what I mean? It’s gray, dirty, concrete and ugly. This photo was taken from the Brooklyn Bridge, New York, in 2010. The city of cities, some say.
But there are also things I love about New York. It is alive every minute of the day. And night! It bubbles and is energetic. And there are pretty sights too, like this one:
And this tower:
And now from a modern city to an ancient one. San Gimignano in Italy. This view is much more to my liking and is forever imprinted in my memories.
Which city do you like most? I also love the old part of Barcelona, and small English cities with their culture and ancient, historical buildings.

Rome is the most beautiful city I’ve ever seen, but I never really liked cities. I prefer quiet places instead. We’re living near Rotterdam and we have plans to move to southern Limburg 🙂

Oh, geweldig, Marion! We zijn nog op zoek naar een huis. We zijn al een paar keer heen en weer geweest en hebben in Kerkrade een huis op’t oog en in Hoensbroek in de Maria Gewanden buurt, daar komen de eekhoorntjes bij je op bezoek, hebben ze ons verteld. Ik meen ergens gelezen te hebben dat jij uit Hoensbroek komt, dan ken je die huisjes vermoedelijk wel? Ik hou je op de hoogte.

Sydney ??? The harbour, the beaches, the people, the nightlife, the weather. I was so lucky to grow up there. Sydney will always be my favourite city in the world. There is just something about the air there.

I think every city has a beauty of its own as well as something that is less appealing to the average visitor – the way you showed with your NY pics

I think we have similar views on cities, Marion. City of cities indeed – I’ve never had a desire to visit NYC but becoming recently interested in city photography it would surely provide a veritable Smörgåsbord of street photography.

After a time, you develop a love and hate relationship with the city you live. I think I love and hate my city at the same time for various reasons. And after a certain time you have spent in a city I believe it starts breathing inside you also. You inculcate many aspects of the city in your thoughts, behavior and personality.
I have posted many pictures about my city “Mumbai” on my blog 🙂
