We’re excited about this week’s photo challenge, near and far, and hope it inspires you to play with perspective, which can give sweeping images of beautiful locations more oomph and power. Perspective is what makes a flat two-dimensional image, such as a photograph, appear like it is three-dimensional. To create this effect, you can use features like diagonal lines, which converge within the frame and literally suck in the viewer.

In this photo, the cemetery of the Congregation of Mission House Saint Franciscus Xaverius in Teteringen, The Netherlands. The cemetery is now integrated in a golf course, weird but fitting. The atmosphere is subdued and very quiet.
I was triggered by the rows of crosses, leading up to the big cross at the far end of these fathers’ last resting place.

This photo is absolutely stunning. I love the contrast of all of the smaller black crosses in the foreground against the big white cross in the background – almost symbolic of life and death. This truly is a work of art and I applaud you. Thank you for sharing this photo with us!

Thanks, Myra! And yes, they do. Just to be quiet and roam there for a long time, strolling from one ancient grave to the next, trying to recapture something that has been, was what I loved in England. While my partner waited and waited 😉

Though we didn’t arrive at our destiny -my V-man entered the wrong place into the Garmin, ROFL – we had a nice ride. Five motor bikes, six friends. And the weather was fantastic! 😀

Perhaps I didn’t explain it well enough, sorry, Nuvofelt: the golf is played AROUND the cemetery, not in between the graves. That would be very morbid indeed.

I love the ancient English graveyards, where the tombstones are centuries old. This scene spoke to me because of the straight lines.

Beautiful, although somewhat eerie photograph. I guess they were trying to keep wild swing golf ball accidents down by integrating the golf course there – damage has already been done.

Al those fathers, lying in straight lines with identical crosses. I prefer a different kind of graveyard, more personal.
