Sara Bareilles. I have posted about this talented and beautiful lady before. On my way home from work this evening, she kept me company, singing Bluebird. Repeatedly.
Bluebird is a song about the end of a relationship, parting from someone you love. About finding the strength to get up, to go out there on your own. “This pair of wings, worn and rusted of too many years by my side. They can carry me, swear to be sturdy and strong. But see, turning them on still means goodbye.” About letting go.
Will you listen to Bluebird with me? Fly little bird, and show your beautiful colors. The world is waiting for you…
Word came through in a letter
one of us changing our mind
you won’t need to guess who
since I usually do not send
letters to me that are mine.
I told him I saw this coming
that I’d practically packed up my things
I was glad at the time
that I said I was fine
but all honesty knows
I wasn’t ready, no
So here we go, Bluebird
back to the sky on your own
oh let him go, Bluebird
ready to fly, you and I
here we go
here we go
This pair of wings, worn and rusted
of too many years by my side
they can carry me
swear to be sturdy and strong
but see, turning them on
still means goodbye
And so here we go, Bluebird
gather your strength and rise up
oh let him go, Bluebird
oh let him go, Bluebird
oh let him go, Bluebird
ready to fly, you and I
here we go
here we go
here we go
“So here we go, Bluebird
back to the sky on your own”

We were fortunate to see Sara perform live a couple of years ago, and I became an instant fan of hers. Thanks for sharing this, Marion. I love seeing other people have an appreciation for what I consider good, natural (i.e. not studio manipulated (i.e. Britney Spears)) music.

You saw her, Gil? That must have been so great. I’ve seen many films on YouTube, and it seems she is in direct contact with the audience, is that right?
Her voice is natural, strong, she doesn’t need the vibrating up-and-down notes to ‘enhance’ the song. She just sings, and she sings very well. Her piano play is also in balance. A very talented woman.

I have enjoyed a couple of Sara Barailles’ songs before. I love the tempo and sass of King of Anything. I’ve never heard Bluebird before. Thanks for introducing me. It’s beautiful and sad all at once.

King of Anything is great, it makes me smile and urges me to scream YESSS indeed! 😉
Bluebird is sad, full of regret, but at the same time strong. I love it.
