Music: Eva Cassidy

Eva Mary Cassidy was the Shy Genius. Eva Mary Cassidy would have been about the same age as I am, had she not been taken away by dreadful cancer. Eva Mary Cassidy should still be singing with her satin angel like voice. She has been walking her Fields of Gold for fifteen years now, but her music and songs are still with us.

Could I invite you to listen to Fields of Gold?

You’ll remember me when the west wind moves
Among the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold

So she took her love for to gaze awhile
Among the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold

Will you stay with me will you be my love
Among the fields of barley
And you can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold

I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I’ve broken
But I swear in the days still left
We will walk in fields of gold
We’ll walk in fields of gold

I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I’ve broken
But I swear in the days still left
We will walk in fields of gold
We’ll walk in fields of gold

Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down
As you lie in fields of gold

You’ll remember me when the west wind moves
Among the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in fields of gold

and to Autumn Leaves?

The falling leaves drift by my window
The falling leaves of red and gold
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sunburned hands I used to hold

Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I’ll hear old winter’s song
But I miss you most of all, my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I’ll hear old winter’s song
But I miss you most of all, my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

I miss you most of all, my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

With only a guitar, she captures the breathless attention of her audience. No fancy setting, no trendy clothes. Just a pure voice. And that is what I love most about her.

Rest in peace Eva.

Thank you Carsten-san, for sharing this gift of true soul music.
