The Ultimate

Day 27 of the ‘Post A Day 2011′ challenge: If stranded on a desert island, and you could only bring one music album with you, which would it be? What is it about this music that never gets old for you?

This is an extremely tough question! My music preferences vary from classic to Gothic rock, and lots in between. Better give you a glimpse of my personal collection:

  • Adele
  • Al di Meola
  • Alanis Morisette
  • Alessandro Safina
  • Alicia Keys
  • Amy Winehouse
  • Anastacia
  • Andrea Bocelli
  • Anouk

Oh this is going nowhere, still at the A. Let me make this list shorter:

  • Beth Hart
  • Billy Joel
  • Bløf
  • The Calling
  • Celtic
  • Coldplay
  • The Corrs
  • Counting Crows
  • The Cranberries
  • Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
  • Daughtry
  • Duffy

Damn, still too many. In stead I’ll try to take one singer/band from every letter:

  • Evanescence
  • Fleetwood Mac
  • Gloria Estefan
  • Howard Shore (music Lord of the Rings)
  • Intwine
  • Jackson Brown
  • Kamelot
  • Loreena McKennit
  • Michael Bublé
  • Nightwish
  • Oleta Adams
  • Phil Collins
  • Robbie Williams
  • Seal
  • Tears for Fears
  • Vanessa Carlton
  • Within Temptation

No Q, U, X, Y and Z, so I’m allowing myself five bonuses:

  • Eva Cassidy
  • Paul Simon
  • Peter Gabriel
  • Sara Bareilles
  • Sting

So now we head straight for the grande finale! Which album would I take with me to a desert island… It would have to be a strong artist with a wide repertoire. There would have to be rock and ballads, sensitive and heavy tracks. And most definitely not boring. With extra points for interesting lyrics.

But the most important part would be the voice. Stranded on a desert island, I would be craving for a human voice.

My ultimate choice is

The Best Of Phil Collins

The second I write this down, other artists jump to mind – Kamelot and Oleta Adams are close on his heals – but I had to choose. Phil Collins doesn’t have the best voice, but the use of percussion in his songs is just the best.

What would be YOUR favorite album? Please share it with me!
