Day 1 of the ‘Post A Day 2011’ challenge:
List three countries you’d like to visit, and why you want to go.
Tuscany. We almost made it to Tuscany last summer. Rolling hills, wonderful Cypress trees, simple food – so special and pure in its simplicity, sun flooding the landscape, lively people. And George Clooney!
Don’t get me wrong, our strong black Fat Boy was perfectly capable of getting us there – and I’m not talking about my Bikermaniac (NL) Vman, but about his Harley-Davidson. We had been cruising Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, the north of Italy and were on our way to Tuscany when a severe ear infection and foot injury prevented us from continuing further south. We traveled back home through France.
O, to finally visit this beautiful region of Italy… Soon, perhaps in this brand new year. It’s our dream to live there later on in our lives. I’ve written about this dream in Spotlight.
Then there’s Ireland. Magical Ireland with its green meadows and brick walls. The island where myths are real and gnomes and elves are part of daily society. Where pubs are open on every street corner, where tap dance and Irish music lighten the heart. And let’s not forget the whiskey! ‘Though in this I prefer the Scotch single malt: Dalwhinnie and Aberlour are my personal favorites.
I have been lucky to see Michael Flatley’s Riverdance show twice and it felt like coming home. The music resonated in my heart and brought tears to my eyes. Aye lasses and lads, I most definitely am going to visit the Emerald Isle.
And last but not least New Zealand. Land of the Hobbits. A breathtaking country which by now is inseparable from The Lord of the Rings images. In New Zealand all of world’s landscapes can be found. Virgin snow on rugged mountains, tropical palm trees and everything in between.
In 2009 Vman and a friend have been cruising both islands for four weeks on bike. Their stories and photographs kindled a fire in my soul that can only be quenched by going there…
Dreams of Italy, Ireland and New Zealand have helped me through the first challenge in my PostADay2011! Thank you beloved destinations.
